Working at Central Bank of Ireland brings many opportunities, some of them to do with your professional life, and others which are more personal. We appreciate the personal interests that so many share, and our sports and social club, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and charitable activities reflect many of the interests of our staff. Each one of us as individuals, and the Bank as an organisation, has our own ever extending horizons and ambitions for what we can achieve. We encourage and celebrate the growth and development of all our staff – in their areas of expertise, in leadership and teamwork, and in personal insight and confidence.
Life at the Central Bank
There is so much to experience working at the Central Bank, and some of it has nothing to do with our day jobs. A multitude of interests and hobbies are shared by our staff and we have a long history of encouraging them in a wide range of events and pursuits.
We have a vibrant Sports & Social Club, which comprises numerous staffed activities and 12 groups, including the Athletics, Camera, Walking and Surf Clubs.
Membership of all our groups is encouraged from day one and our intranet provides updates and information on upcoming activities so you can stay in the picture at all times.
We have a committed CSR group and we’re really serious about our involvement with our local communities. We engage with local community groups to ensure that we bring a positive input to the area. We’re continuing to build on that and look forward to plenty of activities to support this in the months and years ahead.
We are involved in a variety of activities, including the Early Learning Initiative, Junior Achievement Ireland, Generation €uro Competition, and D1 Community Engagement. We also support a variety of volunteering activities.

Our Charity Committee manages the Central Bank's Benevolent Fund, which makes significant donations to five partner charities selected by our staff. It is also used to supplement money raised by staff for other charities, in a scheme known as Matching Funds. Our staff are really enthusiastic about getting involved and every year our volunteers actively raise money for their chosen charities. We seek to foster a culture of involvement and giving, by encouraging and supporting a wide variety of volunteer initiatives.
New members are always very welcome and we try to make our fundraising activities fun and inclusive e.g. our 2015 charity run was a great success and got more than a few of us out of the office and dusting off our runners for a good cause. We also like a good night out. In 2016, many of our staff attended a “Bank’s Got Talent” event – a night of amazing talent and entertainment, which raised €25,000 for charity. This year will have to be very special to top it.
We know it’s our people who make the Central Bank special and we are focused on creating a diverse, inclusive, fulfilling and progressive work environment. We are privileged to have people working with us who have different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We welcome this difference and recognise the value that it brings.

We’re very environmentally aware and take our responsibilities seriously. It’s not a tick-box exercise for us.
We:
- Have a culture of awareness around water and power usage
- Encourage a “think before you ink” approach to paper consumption along with a focus on recycling
- Actively encourage walking and cycling to work – about 87% of us use public transport, walk or cycle.
By deliberate design, our new building in our Dockland Campus is one of the most sustainable buildings in Ireland. We’re very proud of the fact that it is the first office block in the country to achieve the prestigious BREEAM “Outstanding” rating.
Health and Wellbeing is at the heart of the Central Bank’s organisational employee agenda, which is to create a fulfilling workplace for our people. Prior to the move to North Wall Quay, (Dockland Campus) the Central Bank set out to build an environment around it’s people that would not only support it’s priority behaviours but would also enable a healthier workforce. Through the annual Wellbeing Programme, a significant focus is placed on the three Wellness Pillars “Mind”, “Body”, and “Life”, which represents the holistic nature of the wellbeing programme that promotes physical health, mental health and emotional health. These three Wellness Pillars are further supported by workplace practises and on-site facilities, which empower staff members to optimise their own health and wellbeing.
The Central Bank is a member of the See Change community which aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health by starting meaningful conversations with staff on mental health. On World Mental Health Day in October 2018, the Central Bank signed the See Change Pledge, which is a public declaration of the Central Bank’s commitment to working towards creating a more open and inclusive workplace culture around mental health.
To further support positive mental health, we have an employee assistance programme, a serenity room for quite reflection, and a number of mental health initiatives, which further support creating a more open and inclusive workplace culture around mental health.
In addition, our Dockland Campus aims to remove barriers and create mobile work spaces – all supported by best-in-class mobile technology.
We encourage cycling and walking to work, and provide a dedicated area for exercise classes, along with shower, changing facilities, bicycle parking facilities – all contributing to general health and safety. The Central Bank was also accredited with the Ibec Keep Well Mark in November 2018 and subsequently received the Keep Well Mark Large Sized Company of the Year Award, which reflects the organisation's commitment to bringing Health and Wellbeing to the forefront of the organisational employee agenda.”
