At Central Bank of Ireland, we have always played a part in the community through volunteering and providing support for charities and a range of local organisations.
Social Responsibility Working Group
Established in 2022, our Social Responsibility Working Group supports and provides education, employability and employment programmes and initiatives in our local community in Dublin’s Docklands.
Our initiatives, which aim to support individuals from primary education level through to early careers and beyond, include a mixture of work with programme partners and community groups.
Social Responsibility Initiatives
We support our people to volunteer in school programmes run by Junior Achievement Ireland. This national programme encourages young people, in both primary and second level education, to stay in education and helps them develop key skills in areas such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, employability, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Our volunteers teach a variety of Junior Achievement programmes in schools, and we also support a mentoring initiative. We encourage volunteers to invite their classes to visit the Central Bank where in-class learning is reinforced through participation in various workshops, interacting with volunteers, and finding out more about what we do.
We encourage staff to take part in the National College of Ireland’s Early Learning Initiative, which aims to help communities in Dublin’s Docklands through innovative parent and child-learning support programmes. These programmes enable children, young people and their families to develop the skills and knowledge to achieve their educational, career and life goals.
We collaborate with
Dublin North East Inner City (NEIC) to provide work experience placements to Transition Year (TY) students. The programmes provides students from local schools with opportunities to gain experience in corporate roles and settings they might not otherwise have access to. This is important experience in breaking down barriers and opening up office/professional work as an aspiration for the students.
We support Career LEAP (Local Employment Action Partnership) - an educational and work placement programme which provides work readiness training and work experience to support at-risk 18-25 years in the local community. As well as hosting work placements, we have also held the Career LEAP Graduation Ceremony, and regularly work to support the programme partners SWAN Youth and East Wall Youth.
Our Graduate Programme offers recent graduates an opportunity to commence their professional career with the Central Bank. We engage with schools in the Docklands area to encourage applications from local students and we are working on developing our early careers programmes focussed on developing employability from the local area.
Highlights and Events
Charity Committee
Our Charity Committee, made up of staff volunteers, manage the Committee’s annual budget, and encourages our people to get involved in charitable activities and events to raise money for good causes. The Central Bank Commission has approved an annual budget for the Charity Committee of €225,000 focused on three programmes: our Partner Charities, Matching Funds and Boardmatch.
Every two years we partner with five charities, chosen by our people. The partnership consists of a substantial financial donation each year and offers our people volunteering opportunities with the charity partners.
The Committee also donates funds to other charities through the “Matching Funds” programme. These funds are added to money our people raise to support charities
The Committee is partnering with Boardmatch in 2024 to sponsor trustees joining charity boards to strengthen their governance.

Volunteering
Serving the public interest is at the heart of the Central Bank’s purpose. We encourage our people to volunteer, and we have a dedicated Volunteering Policy to support this.
