Series A (1928 - 1975 / 77)
“The Lady Lavery Series”
A committee was appointed to advise on the design of the first series of Legal Tender notes and chose the principal feature for them, an “emblematic female figure”, Lady Hazel Lavery. It was decided that the reverse side of each note should carry a portrayal of one of the river masks whose sculptures adorn the façade of the Dublin Custom House. The watermark on all notes is the head of Erin.
