The Central Bank of Ireland Archives are hosting an online talk to discuss the previous headquarters of the Bank – Sam Stephenson’s Dame Street Tower. The event will include panellists Dr. Miriam Fitzpatrick – Assistant professor at UCD and researcher in urban design; and recently retired Central Bank of Ireland employee Pete Sheil – Manager in Premises and Projects and organizer of the Bank’s Open House events. The talk will cover topics such as the controversy surrounding the buildings planning permission and height; the construction of Ireland’s only suspended building; thoughts of the public on the Brutalist style of the building; the staffs reactions to their new hi-tech work environment and ultra-modern furnishings; and the preservation of the Commercial Buildings.
