Holdings of Irish Long-Term Government Bonds

Key Points:

  • The nominal value outstanding of government bonds was €142.9 billion at the end of December 2023.

  • Within the next five years, €47.4 billion of government bonds will mature.

  • Estimated non-resident holdings was €71.6 billion at the end of December.

  • Credit Institutions and the Central Bank account for the largest amount of Irish-resident holdings, at €66.4 billion. This equates to 93.1 per cent of the resident total.
