Holdings of Irish Long-Term Government Bonds

Key Points:

  • The nominal value outstanding of government bonds increased by €1 billion to €134.2 billion in July 2019.
  • Within the next five years, €50.3 billion of government bonds will mature, of which non-residents hold 57.7 per cent.
  • Estimated non-resident holdings increased by €0.4 billion to €77.7 billion in July.
  • Credit Institutions and the Central Bank account for the largest amount of Irish-resident holdings, at €51.9 billion. This equates to 92 per cent of the resident total.
