ECB President visits Central Bank of Ireland

On Friday 22 September we were honoured to host a visit by Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank to the North Wall Quay building at our Dockland Campus.

President Draghi was in Dublin to participate in the ECB Youth Dialogue, a series of talks with university students across Europe.

The event was organised in partnership with the Central Bank of Ireland and Trinity College Dublin (TCD).  

President Draghi began his visit by delivering a keynote speech titled: "Youth unemployment in the euro area" to the Henry Grattan Lecture Series 2017, the flagship initiative of TCD's School of Social Sciences and Philosophy.

Following his address he took part in a lively Q&A session with Trinity students which was moderated by Philip R. Lane, Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland.

Audience members included Trinity alumni and friends, students, members of the public and guests with an interest in the theme such as government bodies, academics and journalists.

Later in the morning President Draghi met with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohue at Government Buildings.

He rounded off his whistle-stop trip by visiting the Central Bank of Ireland for lunch with Governor Lane and a tour of our new building.
